Continued Recovery in Aircraft Utilization and Pre-Owned Aircraft Sales Predicted for 2012

JETNET LLC, a leading provider of corporate aviation information and a member of the National Aircraft Resale Association, recently released some business aviation market forecasts for aircraft utilization and pre-owned aircraft purchase intentions in 2012.

According to JETNET iQ survey results, owners and operators of business aircraft have expectations of increased aircraft utilization, up on average by 6.3% over the next 12 months and by 8.9% over the next 12 to 24 months, said Diane Levine-Wilson, Director of New Business and Product Development for JETNET. “Respondents who expect to fly more outnumber those who expect to fly less by a factor of more than 10 to 1,” she said. The cycles of business jet aircraft based in the United States were up 3.4% in 2011 over 2010; however, they are still 20.8% off their pre-recession peak.

The same predictive survey revealed that about 14% of owners and operators have a greater than 60% probability of purchasing a pre-owned, fixed-wing turbine aircraft in the next 12 months, Levine-Wilson said. Pre-owned aircraft markets are beginning to stabilize with a steady downward trend in for-sale inventories. Overall, inventory levels are still up about two percentage points over pre-recession levels.
